For Sunday matinee, the jewelry artist and industrial designer Gijs Bakker – one of the founders of studio jewelry in the Netherlands – talks about “The necessity of jewelry".
Die Neue Sammlung is delighted to invite one of the founders of studio jewelry in the Netherlands, jewelry artist and industrial designer Gijs Bakker (*1942), to the SCHMUCK Lecture. Together with Emmy van Leersum, Bakker was the first to define “body jewelry” as an artistic form of expression. In doing so, they not only transcended the boundaries of the conventional concept of jewelry but broadened it for subsequent generations. All the more exciting from Die Neue Sammlung's point of view to hear him talk today about “The necessity of jewelry.”
