Frank Matthias Kammel, born on 12/10/1961, studied Art History, Classical Archeology and Cultural Theory at Humboldt University in Berlin; PhD with Horst Bredekamp on the Art of the 14th century in Erfurt. 1987–1995 scientific employee at the Sculpture Collection (Bodemuseum) of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (since 1992 Staatliche Museen zu Berlin – Preußischer Kulturbesitz). 1995–2018 at the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg: head of the Sculpture Collection, from 2007 also head of the newly created program segment Special Exhibitions, from 2015 Deputy Director General. Since 07/01/2018 Director General of the Bavarian National Museum.
